Lens Choices

  • Bifocal Lenses

    – Bifocals are lenses with two distinct viewing areas to help correct vision at two or even three distances.

  • High Index and Aspheric Lenses

    – This type of lens is manufactured to be thinner at the edges of the lens and lighter in weight overall. It is a good choice for people with stronger prescriptions.

  • Photochromic Lenses

    – Photochromic lenses change from clear to dark based on the intensity of UV radiation.

  • Polycarbonate Lenses

    – Extremely durable, polycarbonate lenses are up to 10 times more impact resistant than regular plastic lenses.

  • Progressive Lenses

    – Progressive lenses allow multiple vision fields to be incorporated into a single lens without any clear distinction between the fields themselves. This is why progressive lenses are often referred to as “no-line” bifocals or trifocals.

  • Computer Lenses

    – If you spend hours a day in front of a computer screen, you may want to consider a pair of lenses specific for screens that help reduce the glare and increase the screen’s contrast so it’s not too harsh on your eyes.

Lens Treatments

A lens treatment is a special additive that either bonds with the lens or is built into the lens during the lens manufacturing process. At Eye Medical Clinic, lens treatments are available as individual additions to lenses, and are also commonly bundled into single lens products for convenience and maximum benefit to your eyes.

Today’s lens treatments can make a phenomenal difference in what you see and what you don’t see. Scratches, glare, ultraviolet rays—all are potential hazards to healthy sight that can be minimized or eliminated by a lens treatment. Interested in a lens treatment for your eyeglasses or sunglasses? Just ask. We’re happy to help you select the coating or treatment that will best match your vision goals and lifestyle.

Common lens coating and treatments available at Eye Medical Clinic include:

  • UV Protection

  • Scratch Resistant

  • Anti-Reflective

Eyeglass Frame Materials

No doubt selecting the lenses for your glasses is an important choice. Equally important is the selection of your frames. Not just for how they will look but for how they will feel, wear and perform for you.

At Eye Medical Clinic, you will find a selection of frames that is unmatched. From material to style, your glasses frames can be as unique as you are!

From titanium to stainless steel and everything in between, Eye Medical Clinic has it. Just ask!

Plastic Frames

Plastic is a popular choice for frames – especially among the younger crowd – because it is lightweight and can come in a variety of fun colors.

Combination Frames

As you might guess, these are frames that have both metal and plastic components. Combination frames have made a comeback recently, and in a wider variety of colors than the classic models.

Mix it Up!

Each frame material offers its own advantages and style features. For eyewear that fits every occasion in your life, consider purchasing more than one pair of glasses and choose a different frame material for each pair. Value Packages

At Eye Medical Clinic we believe that you deserve high quality eyewear at an affordable price.

Prescription eyewear can be expensive as the cost of lenses, frames and special lens coatings can quickly add up. You may consider taking your prescription to a warehouse store or online optical shop to find the best deal. However, the risk in doing that is you likely won’t get the same quality materials and coatings which can greatly affect the optics in your eyewear. Here at Eye Medical Clinic, we strive to provide the best in experience and latest technology in our optical lenses.

This is why we created our special Value Packages at Eye Medical Clinic – we are committed to using the best and most advanced technology to improve the quality of your vision and lifestyle. All at a price that works for your budget. Our Value Packages start at just $169 for a complete pair of prescription glasses. We have multiple frames to choose from and the lenses are made in our labs to our strict quality standards. The package includes scratch resistant lenses and latest technology in optics to help your lenses last longer and help you see better. We offer premium quality coatings and treatments you won’t find at other discount retailers.

When you purchase your glasses from Eye Medical Clinic, our highly trained and experienced opticians will work with you to make sure you get the best frame style and lenses that work with your lifestyle and optical needs, not to mention you’ll receive quality, precision, and reliability. Important detail you won’t get from an online store.

The best value, the best quality and the personal touch from an optical specialist, why go anywhere else for your next pair of glasses?

Contact Lenses

According to the American Optometric Association, more than 45 million Americans age 18 and older wear contact lenses. Also, many children begin wearing contact lenses at age 12 or younger. So if you’re thinking about making the switch from glasses to contacts, you’re in good company.

Contact lenses are a great choice for just about anyone who needs vision correction but doesn’t want to wear eyeglasses full time or undergo LASIK surgery. There are lots of reasons people choose contacts over glasses and contact lenses are more popular than ever.

What are the Different Types of Contact Lenses?

An important choice when considering investing in contact lenses is which lens material will best meet your needs for your unique lifestyle.

Do you cycle? Hike? Work at a computer all day? Are you disciplined about routines and schedules or more relaxed? All of these things and more will need to be considered because different types of lenses and lens materials lend themselves to different preferences and lifestyles.

While soft lenses, especially the disposable variety, are most popular because of wearing ease, there are instances where a hard lens may be a better choice. The experienced optical team at Eye Medical Clinic can help you find the contact lens that will work best for you.

Let’s take a look.

Different types of contact lenses based on the lens material they are made of:

Soft Lenses

These are a popular choice in contact lens material as they are generally the most comfortable to wear. They are made from gel-like, water-containing plastics called hydrogels. These lenses are very thin and pliable and conform to the front surface of the eye.

Silicone Hydrogel Lenses

These are an advanced type of soft contact lenses that are more porous than regular hydrogel lenses and allow even more oxygen to reach the cornea. Introduced in 2002, silicone hydrogel contact lenses are now the most popular lenses prescribed in the United States.

Gas Permeable Lenses

Also called GP or RGP lenses, these are rigid contact lenses that look and feel like PMMA lenses (see below) but are porous and allow oxygen to pass through them. A significant advantage gas permeable contacts have over soft or silicone hydrogel lenses is the sharper optics they provide due to the rigid nature of the material.

Hybrid Contact Lenses

These are designed to offer the comfort of soft or silicone hydrogel lenses combined with the sharper optics of gas permeable lenses. However, they can be challenging to fit properly and more expensive to replace than the soft lens options.

Contact Lenses for the Hard to Fit Patient

While most individuals have no trouble transitioning to contact lenses, some people experience difficulty wearing them for one reason or another. Whether it’s eye shape, certain conditions or impairments, some patients are considered “hard to fit”.

You may be considered a hard to fit contact lens candidate if you have one of the following conditions:

  • Dry Eyes
  • Astigmatism
  • Giant Papillary Conjunctivitis (GPC)
  • Keratoconus
  • Pellucid Marginal Degeneration
  • Post-LASIK or other refractive surgery
  • Presbyopia (reduced near vision common in individuals aged 40 and over)
  • Corneal Scarring

Eye Medical Clinic is a great place to come if you fall into this “hard to fit” category. Our experienced optometrists love to help individuals just like you find a contact lens that is comfortable and effective. No worries – We see you.

Daily Disposable Contact Lenses

Eye Medical Clinic in San Jose carries all the top contact lens brands, including many options for daily disposable contact lenses, including:

  • Acuvue 1-Day Moist
  • TruEyes
  • Alcon Dailies AquaComfort PLUS
  • Total1

Why Daily Disposable Contact Lenses?

There are many advantages to wearing disposable contacts. Some of the top reasons Eye Medical Clinic patients love daily disposables include:

  • Ease of use
  • Clean contacts every day
  • No need to buy contact lens solution
  • Easy for traveling

Daily disposable contact lenses are associated with a lower risk of eye infections when compared to extended wear contacts. Athletes report greater comfort with contact lenses compared to other kinds of eyewear, because they provide full range of vision, including peripheral, and are compatible with all kinds of protective eyewear.

One of the limiting factors for contact lenses in teens and older children is responsibility. Luckily, since disposable contacts have no cleaning regimen, and require no storage, they are perfect for teenagers and preteens.

Eye Exams for Contact Lenses

A comprehensive contact lens exam at Eye Medical Clinic will include both a regular comprehensive eye exam to check your overall eye health, your general vision prescription and then a contact lens consultation and measurement to determine the proper lens fit.

We will cover:

  • Proper fit
  • Safety
  • Hygiene
