When you visit the Eye Medical Clinic of Santa Clara Valley, it is important to remember that you will be seeing a medical doctor, trained in the medical and surgical care of the eye; therefore, this will be a medical eye examination. Your medical history is of great importance; please be prepared to talk about diseases, past surgery, all medicines being taken, and allergies; a family and social history will be included. Your ophthalmic history is critical; any eye problem such as congenital disorders (crossed eyes, amblyopia or "lazy eye"), previous eye surgery (muscle surgery, cataract surgery, retinal surgery, etc.) and previous eye disease should be discussed in detail with the nurse or ophthalmologist. The more complicated the background, the more information will be needed. Prepare to stay at the office for enough time. Come at least 15 minutes before your first appointment in order to check in, take care of paperwork, and get familiar with our office. Be knowledgeable about any insurance coverage or Medicare and HMO status and bring your insurance card. Let us know if you wear contact lenses and if you need to make an appointment to see a contact lens technician after the exam. Prepare for pupil dilation; the drops are temporary and usually do not significantly affect the distance vision. If a special procedure is required at the initial exam or later, a driver may be necessary. If you are interested in new glasses, please come early and feel free to browse in our fine Optical Department before your examination.
