We are proud to have faithfully served San Jose and the surrounding areas with comprehensive eye care for more than 75 years! Here are just a few of our most notable contributions:

Eye Medical Clinic co-founder Dr. Phillips Thygeson was involved in research that was essential in identifying and treating Trachoma, a leading cause of blindness in the world.

Dr. Crowell Beard, co-founder of Eye Medical Clinic, was an internationally recognized oculoplastic surgeon and recipient of the Lucien Howe Award, the highest honor bestowed by the American Ophthalmology Society.

Another of Eye Medical Clinic’s founding fathers Dr. Connor O’Malley is credited with the invention of the Ocutome, a revolutionary system of microsurgical instruments for retinal-vitreous surgery, which is still in use and continues to save the eyesight of thousands of people every year.

Our very own Dr. John Sullivan was a contributing author of General Ophthalmology, the definitive textbook considered the “Bible” of ophthalmology for most American medical students and physicians. Originally published in 1962, the book is currently in its 19th edition and has been translated into five languages.
